After I submit my application, when will I hear from CAA?
After your application and uploaded resume are received and processed by our office, you will be contacted to set up a time for a video or in-person (depending on location) interview.
What happens if I am hired to work at CAA?
Upon accepting a position, you will receive a contract. The contract is to be signed and returned to the camp office within ten days. In addition to the contract, there will be other forms you need to fill out, sign and return with your contract.
When do I get paid?
Paychecks are issued twice during the summer.
Does CAA have a curfew for staff?
We expect everyone to perform at the peak of their abilities during the day. A good night’s sleep is the best way to keep yourself healthy and on top of your game. All staff are required to be in their living quarters by curfew each evening.
When do I have time off?
Rest and reflection are critical to the emotional and physical health and wellbeing of our staff. Understanding that camp is a fast-paced, ever-changing environment, to the extent possible:
- Staff have two all-camp-in evenings per week – Wednesday night for staff meeting and Friday night for staff Shabbat oneg
- Arts Mentors will be off from wake-up through curfew on the first Saturday of each session, and during intersession. Arts Mentors are required to participate in Shabbat Prep and Shabbat (Thursday and Friday), and are welcome to attend Evening Program if interested or specially requested
- Counselors and Logistics and Media Team will be off from wake-up through curfew one day each session, one evening to be taken during week 2, 3, 4, or 5, intersession unless requested and/or interested in staffing, and at least one hour daily.
- Leadership staff time off will be discussed as a team, with final approval from the Camp Director.
- Any staff member that is accepted to work intersession will receive an alternative day off during the immediate next session.
Will I have to attend a staff orientation?
Absolutely! Our comprehensive staff training program is held prior to the arrival of the campers. Staff members arrive between one and two weeks before opening day, depending upon your role in camp. See the Important Dates: Summer 2019 for more information. Staff training provides the tools and skills necessary to guarantee a successful summer for all, and does so within the framework of building a Jewish community. Our goals are to give the staff members the chance to get to know one another and start building working relationships, as well as to prepare for the challenges of working in a residential camp setting. The program includes a wide variety of activities, such as group-building experiences, training sessions, and program planning time.
What if I am a vegetarian or have dietary restrictions?
Special diets, e.g., vegetarian, gluten-free, food allergies, etc. can be accommodated. If you require such assistance, it is your responsibility to let camp know in advance.
What is there to do in West Chester?
The camp is located about 1.5 miles from downtown West Chester, which has restaurants and shops. Other shopping areas are about 5 minutes from camp. West Chester is 25 miles from Philadelphia.
Will I have access to my e-mail?
Computers/Tablets are available for staff use in specified areas of camp during staff time-off. Staff may use their own technology devices in those areas during time-off as well.
How will I do my laundry at camp?
There are laundry facilities on site and each bunk has a scheduled laundry day each session. Additionally, you can do laundry during intersession and on your days or nights off.
May I bring my vehicle to camp?
Yes, you may bring your car to camp. There is a designated staff parking area. When you arrive at camp, please check in at the office to receive your parking permit, which must be displayed on your dashboard.
What can I expect from my experience on staff at 6 Points Creative Arts Academy?
Being on staff at any residential camp is perhaps the most difficult and most fulfilling job you will ever have. A summer at CAA will be challenging, both physically and emotionally, but most of all it will be fun! As a staff member at CAA, you’ll have the opportunity to experience life in our unique and creative community, positively impact the lives of campers, and create friendships that will last a lifetime.
