During each aspect of the showcase, there was an overwhelming aura of support and joy for each and every camper from each and every camper. The support for one another transcended each camper’s age and was also obvious between campers and staff.

Real World: Creative Arts
We encourage our campers and staff to look for safe places outside of camp. Like helpers, there are always points where we can feel safe and brave. Since we now know what one looks like, we have a framework to look for others.

It was as if each prayer was designed to stick with our campers, so that, in camp and beyond, we can draw on their wisdom in our art and in our lives.
Adding Comfort to the Mix
The excitement was tangible. Rabbi Rick Jacobs was coming to camp! We couldn’t wait to welcome the esteemed president of the Union for Reform Judaism to CAA.
From Zumba to Dance Party
The last thing I ever expected to do while working at CAA was go to the gym. Somehow during staff week, I got myself up at 6 am every morning to do daily cardio. By the time our staff was ready to welcome campers to Westtown, I was ready to help incorporate physical activity into their lives. I was determined to run a Zumba-style dance class with both Bonim and Olim units for the entirety of the summer.
A Wish Come True, Part 2
I found my Jewish family. I found the people that I can relate to. CAA created a safe space where I could learn and grow, while staying Jewish AND maintaining my craft. It was the camp I had dreamed of for years.

For the Love of the Arts
Last week, I had the honor and privilege of visiting the newest URJ 6 Points camp, the Creative Arts Academy, during their staff training week to lead two professional development sessions, one on creating inclusive environments and one on professionalism. Beyond the beauty of the campus, the quality of the food and the treat of finding a “Philly Pretzel Factory” less than 10 minutes away (I LOVE hot pretzels, and these were fantastic), what I was most impressed with was the commitment each and every staff member had to the shared goal of bringing this new camp to life in the best way possible.
Singing in Perfect Harmony
My first night on camp, the leadership staff and several of my fellow counselors sang the Birkat Hamazon in improvised four part harmony. It was at that moment precisely, about 2 hours after my arrival in Westtown, that I knew I chose the right place to be this summer.
